Privacy policy
How we collect, use and protect your family’s information. Version 1.0. Effective 8 October 2026.
The short version
- We collect only what we need to plan great days out for your family.
- We never ask for your children’s names, birthdates or photos. We only need their age ranges.
- We never sell your personal information, and we don’t show you advertising based on tracking you around the internet.
- Venues and councils only see anonymous totals, never your details, unless you choose to share them.
- You can see, fix or delete your information at any time.
1. Who we are
1.1 This policy explains how Kidly Pty Ltd (Kidly, we, us) handles personal information when you use the Kidly app and website. We are bound by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
1.2 Kidly is designed for adults (parents, carers and family members) planning outings with children. Children do not hold Kidly accounts.
2. What we collect
We only collect information that is reasonably necessary to run Kidly. The table below sets out what we collect and why.
| Information | Why we collect it | Who can see it |
|---|---|---|
| Name, email address, password (encrypted) | To create and secure your account and contact you about it | Kidly; our hosting and email providers |
| Your suburb or area | To suggest places nearby and send local alerts | Kidly |
| Children’s age ranges (e.g. 0-2, 3-5, 6-9, 10-12) | To suggest age-appropriate places and activities | Kidly only |
| Family preferences (e.g. pram access, quiet spaces, dietary needs) | To tailor plans and filters | Kidly only |
| Device location (only if you allow it) | To suggest places near you right now | Kidly only; not stored as a history |
| Subscription details | To manage Premium. Card details are handled by Apple, Google or Stripe, not stored by Kidly | Kidly; the payment provider |
| Deals you redeem and savings | To run your savings wallet and pay our partners | Kidly; venues see anonymous totals only |
| Reviews, photos, tips and submissions | To share with other families | Public in the app, under your display name |
| App usage and device information | To fix bugs, keep Kidly secure and improve features | Kidly; our analytics provider |
| Messages you send us | To respond and resolve issues | Kidly |
2.1 Information about your children. We deliberately do not ask for children’s names, dates of birth, schools or photos. Age ranges are enough for us to plan well. Please don’t include identifying details about children in reviews or photos (see our Family Terms of Use).
2.2 Sensitive information. We don’t ask for health information. If you choose to tell us about a child’s needs (for example, sensory-friendly or wheelchair access), we use it only to filter suggestions, and you can remove it at any time.
2.3 Using Kidly without identifying yourself. You can browse Kidly without an account. You’ll need an account, with a real email address, to save plans, use deals or subscribe.
3. How we collect it
3.1 We collect information directly from you when you sign up, set preferences, redeem deals, post content or contact us; automatically through the app when you use it; and from app stores and payment providers when you subscribe (for example, whether a payment succeeded).
3.2 We don’t buy personal information about you from data brokers.
4. How we use it
We use your information to:
- build plans and suggestions that suit your family, location and conditions;
- run your account, Premium subscription, savings wallet and deal redemptions;
- send service messages, such as trial and renewal reminders and safety updates about places you’ve saved;
- send newsletters and offers, but only if you opt in, and you can unsubscribe at any time;
- keep Kidly secure, prevent fraud (such as claiming deals more than once) and fix problems;
- understand, in aggregate, how Kidly is used so we can improve it;
- meet our legal obligations.
4.1 How the planner uses your information. Kidly’s planner uses your suburb, children’s age ranges, preferences and current conditions to suggest places automatically. These suggestions don’t affect your legal rights, and you can always change or ignore them. Commercial arrangements with venues do not influence which places are in your plan.
4.2 No tracking-based advertising. We don’t sell advertising that targets you based on your personal information or your activity on other apps and websites.
5. Who we share it with
5.1 We never sell your personal information.
5.2 We share information only as follows:
- Service providers who help us run Kidly, such as cloud hosting, email, analytics, customer support and payments. They may use it only to provide services to us.
- Venues and councils, but only as anonymous, combined statistics (for example, “42 families redeemed this deal in July”). A venue receives your details only if you choose to share them, such as to make a booking.
- Other Kidly users, who can see reviews and photos you post publicly, with your display name.
- Authorities, where required or authorised by law, or to lessen a serious threat to someone’s life, health or safety.
- A buyer or successor, if Kidly’s business is sold or restructured. They must continue to protect your information under this policy.
6. Overseas storage
6.1 Some of our service providers store or process data outside Australia, including in the United States, Singapore and the European Union. We choose providers with strong security practices and take reasonable steps under APP 8 to ensure they handle your information consistently with the APPs. Where possible, we store core account data in Australian data centres.
7. Cookies and analytics
7.1 Our website and app use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your settings and measure how Kidly is used in aggregate. We use an analytics provider with settings that limit identifying information. You can control cookies in your browser settings.
8. Marketing
8.1 We’ll only send marketing emails or push notifications if you opt in. Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link, and you can turn off notifications in the app or your device settings. We’ll still send essential service messages, such as billing and renewal reminders.
9. How we keep it safe
9.1 We use industry-standard security, including encryption in transit and at rest, access controls so only staff who need information can see it, and regular security reviews. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.
9.2 Data breaches. If a data breach is likely to cause serious harm, we’ll notify affected people and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.
10. How long we keep it
10.1 We keep information only as long as we need it. If you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within 30 days, except where we must keep some records by law (for example, tax records for 7 years). Public reviews may remain in anonymised form.
10.2 Location data used for “near me” suggestions is not stored as a location history.
11. Your choices and rights
You can:
- see the personal information we hold about you;
- correct it if it’s wrong, out of date or incomplete;
- download a copy of your data;
- delete your account and data, from settings or by emailing us (see kidlyapp.com/delete-account);
- change your children’s age ranges, preferences, location and notification settings at any time.
Email hello@kidlyapp.com. We’ll respond within 30 days. There’s no charge for access requests. If we can’t agree to a request, we’ll explain why in writing.
12. Children and teenagers
12.1 Kidly accounts are for adults aged 18 and over. If we learn that a child has created an account, we’ll close it and delete its information.
12.2 We design Kidly with children’s privacy in mind: collecting the minimum needed, never collecting children’s names or images, and never using children’s information for advertising or selling it.
13. Third-party links and bookings
13.1 Kidly links to venue websites and booking pages. When you leave Kidly, the other site’s privacy policy applies.
14. Complaints
14.1 If you have a concern about your privacy, please contact our Privacy Officer first at hello@kidlyapp.com. We aim to acknowledge complaints within 5 business days and resolve them within 30 days.
14.2 If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the OAIC at www.oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
15. Changes to this policy
15.1 We’ll post updates in the app and on our website. For significant changes, we’ll notify you at least 30 days in advance.
